- Mt. Desert Festival of Chamber Music — The Mt. Desert Festival of Chamber Music, now in its 48th season, is one the longest running festivals in the state of Maine. In 1963, it pioneered in bringing back the first public concerts on Mt. Desert Island since the halcyon pre-World War I days. Concerts are held in Northeast Harbor at the historic Neighborhood House, which in its earliest days hosted the likes of Caruso, Paderewski, and Fritz Kreisler. Todd Crow became music director of the festival in 1996, taking over from founder Matthew Raimondi, who as first violinist of the famed Composers String Quartet directed the concerts for the first 33 years.
